Through these funds so generously donated by our supporters, we are able to provide

  • Scholarships for College/Technical School
  • Scholarships for “Tools of the Trade” equipment purchases.
  • Grants to enable students to participate in national Student Leadership competitions (i.e. Skills USA).
  • Grants to specific programs to meet high-priority needs not covered by school or student body funds.
  • Grants to instructors to assist with keeping their skills and training current with industry.

Together, we can help the instructors of New Market Skills Center continue to provide the high level of educational and technical excellence that they have become known for, and help the students of New Market Skills Center to achieve their dreams!

Internal Scholarships & Grants

The following scholarships are available to New Market Skills Center students through the NMSC Foundation. To apply for any of them, please download the NMSC Foundation Internal Scholarship Application Packet.

Derek J. Lohmeyer Memorial Scholarship

  • Value: $500.00
  • College/Technical Training for classes, training courses, books and or tools necessary for the trade.
  • Must have a “B” or better in NMSC program

Norma L. Loree Memorial Scholarship

  • Value: $1,000.00
  • Must have one year of 540 hours in a training program.
  • For Tuition or Expenses for a student who desires to pursue a further education at an accredited public college, private vocational school may apply for the scholarship.

About:

The Norma L. Loree Memorial Scholarship has been established in memory of Norma Loree, a highly respected, seventeen-year instructor of the Academy of Finance program at New Market Skills Center, Tumwater. Ms. Loree passionately reinforced the needs for all New Market students to have a competitive edge over their peers by possessing strong basic career-entry skills such as knowing how to prepare for a job interview – regardless if they were going on to postsecondary education, training, or directly entering the workforce after graduation. At the request of Norma’s family, the Norma L. Loree Memorial Scholarship application will be structured in the form of a standard job application process.

Phillip And Dorothy Medgard Scholarship

  • Value: $500.00 each
  • 2 scholarships available
  • Must have a “B” or better in Training program. Tuition and or Expenses.
  • For any student who plans to further their career at a university, community college or career and technical college.

New Market Foundation Breakfast Scholarship

  • Value: $1,000
  • 2 scholarships available*
  • 1 Scholarship in the amount of $1000 Tuition for College or Technical Training for a student desiring to pursue their education at an accredited public college or private vocational school.
  • *Please note: if funds are available there will be a second $1000 scholarship available for “Tools of the Trade” to purchase equipment necessary to further education and training through an apprenticeship, university, or community college.

SPSCC Academic Excellence Scholarship

Two-year tuition-only waiver for a NMSC Student

This prestigious two-year tuition only (fees not included) scholarship is for three quarters of full time attendance in each academic year. Recipient is required to maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. Student must demonstrate a high probability of success in college at SPSCC. Once a student accesses the scholarship, the two-year time frame begins. If student decides to take time off and restart, they need to be aware that the time off counts as part of the two-year time line.

Orm & Beth Vertrees Memorial Scholarship

  • Value: $500
  • Tuition for College or Technical Training.
  • For an NMSC student who plans to further their education and technical training at a State of Washington university, college, community college or career and technical institute.
  • Scholarship is valid for up to two years from date of award.

Fred Finn Scholarship

  • Value: $1,000
  • For college or technical training

Finninsula Scholarship

  • Value: Up to $1,000
  • For tuition or expenses related to college or technical training.

Delbert & Lettie Roberts Memorial Scholarship

  • Value: $700.00
  • For a student who plans to pursue training at a college, community college or technical training facility.
  • Must have 540 hours at NMSC
  • Scholarship is valid for two years after date of award.

Bill/Jodi Brandt WSECU Scholarships

Value: $1500.00 each

Two scholarships awarded to students from Academy of Finance program:

Scholarship #1:

Tuition and/or fees for post secondary education; paid to school of student’s choice; must be used by the fall quarter of the year following graduation from NM; not based primarily on financial hardship. Student will be chosen on scholastic achievement, leadership, and an additional written essay of approximately 300 words that indicates how the money will benefit the student’s education.

Scholarship #2:

Used for uniforms and/or equipment for career and technical training costs; not based primarily on financial hardship; will be chosen on scholastic achievement, leadership, and an additional written essay of approximately 300 words that indicates how the money will benefit the student’s career.

Two scholarships awarded to a student from any NMSC program:
